Claims Construed

These are orders construing the disputed terms of the asserted patent claims. A claim construction order fixes, as a matter of law, what the words of the claims mean, and everything downstream - infringement, invalidity, damages theories - is measured against those definitions. The orders collected here range from rulings on a single contested term to comprehensive opinions construing dozens across several patents. They typically set out each disputed term, the constructions proposed by each side, the intrinsic evidence from the specification and prosecution history, and the construction adopted. Many are the longest documents in this collection. They are commonly the document later filings cite most often within the same case.
