These are Federal Circuit decisions affirming part of the judgment below and disturbing the rest, whether by reversal, vacatur, or remand. Mixed dispositions are common on appeal because a patent judgment usually rests on several independent determinations - claim construction, infringement, validity, damages, and willfulness - each reviewed under its own standard. An appellate court may sustain the infringement finding while vacating the damages award, or uphold most constructions while correcting one that requires revisiting the verdict. What survives and what returns to the district court is usually set out in the closing paragraphs. That passage is the one to read first when tracing what a case looks like after appeal.
